Norma S. Kayser, 71, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, following a brief illness.

The former Norma Sue Gengler was born June 5, 1932, on the family farm near Remsen, the daughter of Michael W. and Margaret (Goetzinger) Gengler. She was raised near Remsen and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School. Norma married Paul Nicholas Kayser on May 20, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Le Mars. Her husband Paul passed away November 30, 1982.

Norma had been employed at the Le Mars Public Library for 23 years.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and Catholic Daughters of America.

Norma thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and also enjoyed playing cards, quilting, and traveling.

Survivors include her eight children and 16 grandchildren: Linda Smith and her husband Jerry of Cherokee, and their children Angie, Brian, and Chris; Betty Hoffman and her husband Mark of Des Moines; Steve Kayser and his wife Lori of Ely, and their children Nicholas and Shannon; Joan Morse and her husband LeRoy of Storm Lake, and their children Jeremiah and Chelsey; Dave Kayser of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Janet Robinson and her husband Jeff of Sioux Falls, S.D., and their children Zachary, Zoe, and Samuel; Richard Kayser and his wife Cammie Kayser of St. Cloud, Minn., and their children Daniel, Alex, and Parker; and Doug Kayser and his wife Laura of Ankeny, and their children Maxwell, Claire, and Ben; two sisters: Martha Sitzmann and her husband Roy of Kingsley, and Rita Sitzmann of Le Mars; a brother, Joseph Gengler and his wife Olie of Remsen; a brother-in-law, Jim Kayser and his wife Clara of Le Mars; and a sister-in-law, Eileen Ortmann of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; a sister, Marie Tentinger; five brothers: Michael R. Gengler, Al M. Gengler, Clarence Gengler, Raymond Gengler, and Vernon Gengler; a sister-in-law Sylvia Koopman; and a brother-in-law, Joe Ortmann.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Friends may call anytime after 3 p.m. Sunday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. A parish rosary will be at 4 p.m., a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., and a Catholic Daughters rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Friends of the Le Mars Public Library or Hospice of Siouxland.
