Jeff M. Baldwin, 44, of Merrill, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in rural Plymouth County.

Jeffrey Martin Baldwin was born June 9, 1959, in Akron, the son of Ardeth and Geraldine (Yoerger) Baldwin. He grew up in Le Mars and attended Le Mars Community High School.

Jeff was a very self-taught man. At an early age he had learned steel fabrication. He had worked for local excavating contractors prior to establishing J & B Construction in 1987. Jeff was well-known throughout Plymouth County for his excavating work.

Jeff was a member of the Land Improvement Contractors of America and the Merrill Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Brenda; a son and daughter, Chad of Merrill and Trisha of Le Mars; his mother, Geraldine Baldwin of Merrill; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and Burton Joyce of Penhook, Va., and Rebecca and Kenneth Ellsworth of Tifton, Ga.; a brother and sister-in-law, SGM. Kirk Baldwin and his wife Tonda of Guston, Ky.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ardeth Baldwin in April 1997.

Private funeral services will be held Thursday, with burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery at rural Akron. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Benjamin Meeks of the Merrill and Adaville United Methodist Churches officiating.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Baldwin, Chad Baldwin, Cody Baldwin, Jake Baldwin, Jerry Hartman, Steve Hartman, and Marlin Baldwin.
