CRAIG PIONEER TAKEN BY DEATH

Hinrich Croon Passed Away At Advanced Age

Hinrich Croon, pioneer resident of Craig passed away at his home Friday at the advanced age of 86 years. Mr. Croon had been a resident of Craig for nearly 25 years.

Hinrich Croon, son of Cornelius and Elska Croon, was born December 5, 1859 (1852), in Hazel, Hanover, Germany. Here he spent his early youth and at the age of 14 left with his parents to find a new home in Mount Olive, Illinois. From there they moved to Nokomis, Ill., at which place the departed was united in marriage to Tena Hussman (actually Husman or Husmann) on August 22, 1874.

This union of 64 years was blessed with 11 children, five of whom preceded their father in death.

The deceased is survived by his wife and six children; Mrs. Anna Wilkens, Craig; Henry, Forest Grove, Oregon; Martin, Grant township; Hilka, Salem, S. D.; Mrs. Albert Heeren, Elgin township; Onnie, Egan, S. D.; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Interment was made in the Grant township Lutheran church of which the departed had been a faithful and active member, Rev. F. Bunge officiated.

Henry Croon, 86, well known and prominent resident of Plymouth county for many years, died at his home in Craig Saturday, April 1, following an illness of two weeks.

Mr. Croon was born at Hazel, Hanover, Germany, December 3, 1852, and came to American when a youth. He lived at Mr. Olive and Nokomis, Illinois, before coming to Plymouth county in the eighties.

The children are Mrs. Anna Wilkens of Craig, Henry Croon of Forest Grove, Oregon, Martin Croon of Grant township, Miss Hilka Croon, of Salem, S. D., Mrs. Albert Heeren of Elgin township and Onno Croon of Egan, S. D., twenty-three grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 4, at 2’clock at the Grant township church, Rev. Fred Bunge officiating, and interment made in the Grant township cemetery.

Mr. Croon was widely known and respected by all who knew him.
