FINAL RITES FOR MRS. TENA CROON

Well Known Pioneer of Grant Twp. Laid To Rest Sunday

Tena Croon, nee Husman, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Heeren, on Wednesday evening, March 24, 1943, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 13 days, after a lingering sickness which confined her to her bed for the past nine weeks.

She was born on November 11, 1856, in a province of Germany, and came to the United States with her parents at the age of about one year, observing her first birthday on the vessel.

Deceased spent the early part of her life in the vicinity of Nokomis, Ill., at which place she was united in marriage to Henry Croon on August 22, 1874. They resided there until 1881 and came to Plymouth county and settled on a farm in Grant township, which was their home until 25 years ago. They retired from actual farm life and moved to Craig, living there until 1939.

After the death of her husband, April 1, 1939, she gave up her home and since that time had lived with her daughters, Hilka Croon and Mrs. Albert Heeren.

Deceased was the mother of 11 children, five of whom besides her husband preceded her in death.

The surviving children are Mrs. August Wilkens of Struble; Henry of Yacolt, Wash; Martin of Le Mars; Hilka of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Albert Heeren of Le Mars; Annie of Dell Rapids, S. D.; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Sunday at Grant township Lutheran church at 2:30 o’clock with Rev. F. Bunge officiating. Interment was made in the church’s cemetery.

The deceased was a faithful member of Grant Lutheran church and a member of the ladies aid. She was kind and loving mother and was held in the highest esteem by everyone who knew her.

Relatives here for the final rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Onnie Croon, Darrell and Jean; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Croon and daughter, Ardis; Mrs. Lyle Croon, all of Dell Rapids, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Annie Albers of Colman, S. D.; Mrs. Ella Zimmerie and Mrs. Earl Heltcomp of Montevideo, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Albers and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nelson of Alcester, S. D.; Mrs. Geo. Oller, Mr. and Mrs. John Drew and Mrs. Keith Winchell all of Vivian, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Oller of Canistota, S. D.’ Mr. and Mrs. Fred Munzke and Mrs. Alvina Boysen of Montrose, S. D.; W. M. Gilbert of Salem, S. D., and H. F. Baach of Howard, S. D.
