LONG ILLNESS IS FATAL TO AKRON RESIDENT SUNDAY
LAST RITES ARE HELD ON WEDNESDAY FOR JOHN H. HULS
One of Akron's widely known and long-time residents, John Henry Huls, passed away Sunday morning, February 26, at the Akron Hospital, after an extended illness, aged 86 years and 4 days.
Mr Huls was born February 22, 1882, in Ost Friesland, Germany, and came to the United States and Akron when a child with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Huls and grew to manhood here. He married Mamie Onnen, of Akron. She passed away June 1, 1930. In 1939 he was united in marriage with Anna Kruse.
Mr. Huls was a carpenter, blacksmith and farmer, and for 10 years prior to retiring at the age of 80 he was a caretaker at the Akron Cemetery. He was esteemed by a host of friends for his many fine qualities.
Survivors are the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Dale Vander Kooi of Merrill, Iowa; Mrs. Donald Johnson of Sioux City and Mrs. Fred Andresen of Akron; five sons, Herman and Chris, both of Sioux City; William of Aberdeen, Idaho; Marvin of Moorhead, Minnesota; and John of Lancaster, California; two brothers Ed of Akron and Alex of Shell Lake, Wisconsin; a sister, Mrs. Rena Hein of Madison, South Dakota; 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was one son, Henry, of Westfield and one daughter, Mrs. Byron (Elizabeth) O'Connor of Sioux City.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church, Reverend Harris Rostager officiating. A quartet, comprised of Mrs. Norman Neilsen, Mrs. Darwyn Klemme, Vernon Jurgensen, and Daryl Siebens, sang. Mrs. Glen Gabel was organist. Casket bearers were Eli Andresen, Ronald Huls, Patrick O'Connor, Robert Huls, Gene Huls, and Jerry Nelson. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery.
