Mrs. Bertha Wells Claimed By Death

Member of Pioneer Stanton Family

Death claimed Mrs. Bertha Wells, 51, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Laura Buehler, 215 Second Avenue SE, Tuesday afternoon January 16, following a sickness of several months.

Bertha Alfred was born in Stanton Township, Plymouth County, October 16, 1886, and was a daughter of Alonzo and Mary Ann Alfred, who settled in the county in the seventies. When she was three years old her parents moved to a farm in America Township where they lived until 1907, when they came to Le Mars and established a home in Wernli addition.

She was united in marriage in Le Mars December 8, 1915, with Ray Wells and after their marriage they remained in Le Mars for a short period and subsequently lived at Spencer and in Sioux City.

Mr. Wells died in Sioux City February 1, 1939. After the death of her husband her health began to fail and last September she came to Le Mars and made her home with her sister.

Her death is mourned by two daughters, Doris and Hazel Wells, and three sisters, Mrs. James Dempster, of Neligh, Neb., Mrs. George Pinney, of Emmett, Idaho, and Mrs. Laura Buehler, of this city.

Funeral On Friday

The funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the Luke Mortuary Chapel. Rev. W.M. Hubbard, pastor of the First Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the family ground in this city cemetery.
