Lawrence Reiter Instantly Killed At Noon Monday

Was Installing Electric Fire Siren Equipment

Lawrence Reiter, aged 27, well known Le Mars youth, employed with the Henn Electric company of this city, was instantly killed in an accident Monday noon due to heart failure or electric shock. Reiter was at work on the tower west of the Royal theater, recently constructed to hold the siren used for fire alarms and to sound the noon whistle. His employer, A. Henn, and Orville Crowley were at the foot of the tower. Mr. Henn warned Reiter to be careful as the young man was doing the final taping on some wires and asked him if it would not be better to turn off the current. The youth replied no and a few seconds latter toppled over and the men below thought he was going to fall. Young Crowley rushed up the ladder to his assistance. The body of young Reiter was slumped over dead, his arm loosely thrown across a standard. A doctor was called but his services were not required as the young man was beyond help. Coroner S. H. Luken was called and pronounced the death accidental.

Reiter is survived by Margaret, his wife, who is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wanderscheid of this city, and four children, Gerald and Darlene, twins, and Joyce and Jerry. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Minnie Reiter, and a brother, Donald Reiter. The body was taken to the Wiltgen Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at St. Joseph church.
