Fractured Skull Causes Death Of LeMars Salesman

S. F. Peterson Served Adopted Country In World War

S. F. Peterson, 56, residing 434 Eighth Avenue SW, died Tuesday, December 30, at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines.

Mr. Peterson was injured December 10 when held at the police station in LeMars while having trouble with his car and was subsequently a patient at the Sacred Heart hospital for a few days and then went home. He was taken back to the local hospital later and Saturday was conveyed to the Veterans hospital in Des Moines. Relatives stated his death was due to a fractured skull. . The day he was taken care of by the police he was apparently suffering from some mental or physical trouble and at city headquarters became hysterical and violent, attempted to inflict harm on himself and fell injuring his head.

Mr. Peterson resided in LeMars the past eight years, coming here from Rock Rapids where he lived for eleven years. While in LeMars he was employed at first in railroad work and then as a traveling salesman. Sigfred Filbert Peterson was born at Gothenburg, Sweden, November 24, 1885, and came to America when a youth. He served in the World War and was a sergeant in Company D, Seventeenth Engineers. He enlisted in June, 1917, and was honorably discharged in January, 1919. He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Daisy Brown. They were married April 19, 1922, at Elkwood, Virginia. He also leaves a daughter, Lenora. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and the funeral will be held there this Friday afternoon, Rev. Mether of Pierson officiating.
