Francis Singer, Remsen, Dies Following Minnesota Accident

Francis Singer, 65, Remsen, who was injured in a 2-vehicle crash Saturday' May 27. at Olivia, Minn., died Sunday (June 4, 1972) at an Olivia hospital.

It was reported he suffered internal injuries, leg and back injuries and multiple lacerations.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church, Remsen. Burial will be in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral Home.

Mr. Singer was a retired farmer and owner of the Maple Lanes Bowling Alley at Remsen.

He was preceded in death by a brother and his parents.

Survivors are his wife Elizabeth, two sons, Edward of Le Mars and Alvin of Remsen and a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Kathy) Heuertz of Le Mars and five grandchildren.

Also injured in the crash were Mrs. Singer and the couple's daughter Kathy and her husband, Richard Heuertz.

Mrs. Singer was released from the Minnesota hospital over the weekend. Kathy remains in the intensive care unit at St. Barnabas hospital at Minneapolis and her husband, Richard, 19, who remains hospitalized with a badly fractured right ankle.

The couples were within 50 miles of their destination, Nest Lake, where they planned a fishing expedition when the accident occurred.

Funeral services for Francis Singer, 65, Remsen, who died Sunday (June 4, 1972) of injuries he received in a 2-vehicle collision May 27, will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic church at Remsen.

Rev. Donald Slaven will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch funeral home at Remsen. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Singer died at an Olivia, Minn., hospital where he was taken after the crash at Olivia.

Mr. Singer, his wife, Elizabeth, 57, and their daughter, Mrs. Richard (Kathy) Heuertz, 18, Le Mars, were passengers in a van driven by Mr. Heuertz, 19. The van was in collision with a car near Olivia. Both men in the other vehicle were killed.

Mrs. Heuertz remains in the intensive care unit of a Minneapolis hospital while Mr. Heuertz is hospitalized in Olivia. Mrs. Singer has been dismissed from the Olivia hospital.

Mr. Singer was born Sept. 14, 1905, at Le Mars. He married Elizabeth Gotto Oct. 4, 1932, at Remsen.

The couple farmed south of Remsen until retiring to town in 1962. He since had worked at the Maple Lanes Bowling Alley at Remsen, which is owned by his sons.

Survivors are his wife; the daughter; two sons, Edward of Le Mars and Alvin of Remsen; five grandchildren; two brothers, Albert and Clarence, both of Le Mars; and two sisters, Millie Singer of Le Mars, and Mrs. Ben Beyers of Hinton.
