MILDRED SCHULTZ
Mildred Schultz, 93, of rural Merrill died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa. Mildred Winter was born January 26, 1908, at Hinton, the daughter of Louis and Minnie (Ellison) Winter. She graduated from Hinton High School in 1926 and then attended Iowa State Teacher’s College at Ceder Falls. Mildred taught country school for many years in Grant and Stanton Townships in Plymouth County. On December 1, 1943, Mildred and George Albert Schultz were united in marriage at Le Mars. They farmed southeast of Merrill until 1952, when they moved to a farm northwest of Flandreau, South Dakota. They farmed near Flandreau until retiring in 1974. The family moved southwest of Egan, South Dakota, and remained there until 1978 when they returned to rural Merrill. Mr. Schultz died July 225, 1978. Mildred continued to live on the farm until her recent hospitalization. She was a member of Merrill United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School and was a member of United Methodist Women. Survivors include a son Donald Schultz and his wife Patricia; a daughter Caryl and a granddaughter Lori all of rural Merrill; two sisters Bernice Plueger and her husband Elmer of Merrill and Gladys Taylor of rural Le Mars and a sister-in-law Evelyn Winter of Le Mars. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, sister Elvera Schneider, two brothers L.F. “Bud” Winter and Merlyn Winter, a brother and sister in infancy. Burial was in Stanton Township Cemetery, rural Merrill.
