Funeral services for Mrs. Martin J. (Regina) Joynt whose home was at 551
Central Avenue Northwest in Le Mars widow of the late Dr. Martin Joynt, Le Mars
physician, were held today at 9 a.m. at St. James catholic church with Rev. L.J.
LaVelle officiating. Burial was in Calvary cemetery under direction of the
Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home. The parish rosary was recited Sunday evening at
the funeral home.Pallbearers were James P. Kelley, Dr. Larry O'Toole, W.F. Barker, Dr. F.C.
Bendixen, Dr. Walter Bruscher and Dr. Robert Joynt Jr. of Iowa City.
Mrs. Joynt has been hospitalized for the past ten months. She was
transferred from the Sacred Heart hospital here last March to a Des Moines
hospital where she had been a surgical patient. She suffered a stroke about two
months ago and death took place Thursday October 22.Mrs. Joynt, who was active in social, cultural and educational circles in LeMars,
came here in 1915. She was born March 22, 1884. Her marriage to Dr. Joynt
took place in 1907 at Dubuque.Deceased was the former Regina Rooney and had been a registered nurse.
Following her marriage in 1907 she and Dr. Joynt lived at Jessup, Iowa, until
1915 when they came to Le Mars.Her husband was one of the founders of the Le Mars clinic. He was an eye,
ear, nose and throat specialist at the clinic. He died December 7, 1955.
Mrs. Joynt was a longtime member of St. James Catholic church, the Le Mars
Country club and the Plymouth country Red Cross board.
The couple were the parents of a daughter who passed away when she was a
little child, and a son, John, who lives in Des Moines.
Mrs. Joynt was a collector of antique furnishings, and glassware and her
home here contains one of the largest collection of antiques in northwest Iowa.Survivors include a son, John, in Des Moines; a grandson, Michael and a
granddaughter, Mary Ann of Des Moines; three brothers, Leo Rooney, Wapato,
Washington; Frank Rooney of Yakima, Washington, and James Rooney of Seattle.
