from the LeMars newspaper dated 13 Jun 1916

Carl Witt passed away at the home of his son, Albert Witt, in Portland township, Plymouth county, Iowa, on Thursday, June 1, 1916, aged 87 years, 4 months and 4 days. He had always enjoyed good health until about a week previous to his death, and the end came as a result of the infirmities of advanced age.

Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Witt was born January 28, 1829, in Pommern, Germany, and was baptized and confirmed there. He was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Post in 1852 and four sons and four daughters were born to them, and two sons and two daughters survive them. Mrs. Witt passed to her reward in August 1915. Mr. and Mrs. Witt came to the United States in 1888 and resided with their son, Albert, in Grant township, Plymouth county, and twenty-two years ago moved with their son and family to Portland township, which afterwards remained their home.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Akron German Lutheran church, Rev. F. A. Meske officiating. A mixed quartet sang hymns at the service. There was a large attendance of friends at the funeral, who followed the remains to the last resting place in Riverside cemetery. A daughter, Mrs. Busse, and her daughter, Marie, came from LeMars to attend the funeral.
