WITT RITES ARE HELD MONDAY
Mrs. August Witt Died Friday at Sacred Heart Hospital

Mrs. August Witt, a well known resident of the community passed away at the Sacred Heart Hospital Friday (November 21, 1941) following a brief sickness. She was 66 years old.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at two o'clock from Mauer's funeral home with Rev. S. A. Jones officiating. Interment was in the city cemetery under the direction of Mauer's funeral home.

Nellie Ewin was born at Rutland, Illinois, Nov 8, 1875. She moved with her parents 51 years ago from Sterling, Colo., to Seney, Iowa and in 1892 was united in marriage to August Witt. To this union two children were born; a daughter, Minnie, who died at the age of 21 and a son, Lester, who resides in LeMars.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, August Witt, her son, Lester, one grandson, Eldred Morrissey and two great grand children, all of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Obermire and Mrs. Iona Clark, both of LeMars; three brothers, Wm. A. of Austin Minn, Arthur H. of Des Moines, and Charles E. of LeMars. One brother, Albert, preceded her in death.

Mrs Witt was a loving wife, mother and neighbor and was a member of the Methodist Church and the Happy Hour club.

MRS. AUGUST WITT TAKEN BY DEATH
Resident Here For Fifty-One Years

Death claimed Mrs. Witt, wife of August Witt, well known farmer of America township, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in this city Friday, November 21, at the age of 66 years and thirteen days. Mrs. Witt suffered an attack of cerebral hemorrhage Tuesday while preparing breakfast at her home. She never rallied from the shock.

Nellie Ewin was born at Rutland, Illinois, November 8, 1875, and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mathew Ewin, from Sterling, Colo., to LeMars 51 years ago. They settled near Seney. She was married to August Witt in 1892 (Note: Their marriage date was 10 May 1891, at Seney, Iowa. Nellie's maiden name was Frances Ellen Ewin.)

To their union two children were born: Minnie, who died when twenty-one years of age and Lester F. Witt, who resides in LeMars. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, August Witt; her son, Lester F. Witt, who resides in LeMars; a grandson, Eldred Morrissey; and two great grandchildren of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Obermire and Mrs. Iona, Clark, of LeMars; three brothers, William A. Ewin, of Austin, Minn., Arthur H. Ewin, of Des Moines, and Charles E. Ewin, of LeMars. A brother, Albert Ewin died while in service in France in 1918.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Mauer chapel, Rev. S. A. Jones of the Baptist church officiating.

The Pallbearers were Will Penning, M. J. Lancaster, Duncan McArthur, John Alderson, John Gralapp and C. Rickabaugh.

Mrs. Witt was a devoted wife and mother and a good neighbor and held the respect of a large circle of friends. She was a member of the Methodist church and of the Happy Hour club and spent a large portion of time in good works.

We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for assistance and sympathy extended during the sickness and death of our dear wife and mother and sister. Also the Happy Hour Club, Rev. Jones of the Baptist church, Methodist church for the beautiful floral offerings and pantry supplies and those who assisted with the funeral services. –August Witt, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Witt, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ewin, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Ewin, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Obermire, Iona M. Clark.
