EX-MERRILL MINISTER DIES

Rev. Carl Berg Died Wednesday Following Operation

Rev. Carl Berg, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran church at Merrill a number of years ago, passed away in Milwaukee, Wis., following an operation for gallstones at a hospital in that city.

The remains were brought to Le Mars and the funeral was held from the Grant township Lutheran church Sunday afternoon. The body was laid to rest in the church cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. J. D. Meyer, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. Zelbell, of Craig.

Rev. Carl Berg was born in Grant township May 25, 1892, and was nearly 37 years old. He received his early education in the school at Mammen and later attended college at the St. Paul Lutheran Seminary and was admitted to the ministry. He was in charge of churches at Merrill and later at New Haven, Mich..

He was compelled to quit the ministry owning to ill health and engaged in other work and at the time of his death was representing a financial concern as traveling representative.

While living in Canada some years ago he married Miss Clara Quittenbaum.

He is survived by his wife and four young children who are Alfred, Rosie, Ernest, and Beatrice. He also leaves to mourn his death his father, Herman Berg, and a brother, Herman Berg, of Strubble, and five sisters who are Mrs. Carl Tobalt, of Spencer, Mrs. Louis Plueger, of Le Mars, Mrs. Ben Marineau of Burnsville, Miss Anna Berg, and Miss Rosa Berg, of Le Mars.
