Mrs. Bruns killed in one-car mishap

Funeral services for Mrs. Louis Bruns, 71, Le Mars, who was killed in a 1-car crash last Friday evening, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran church, Grant township.

Rev. L. L. Belk of St. John's church, Le Mars, will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Monday at Mauer's funeral home.

MRS. BRUNS WAS killed in an accident on county road C about a mile east of Craig. Sheriff Jim Merles reported it appeared Mrs. Bruns applied the car's brakes in an effort to avoid a dog in the road. The car rolled into a ditch.

Mrs. Bruns and her husband, Louis, 74, were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown out of the car. Mrs. Bruns was struck by the rolling vehicle, Sheriff. Mertes said.

THE DOG WAS dead when officers arrived, according to the sheriff. Mr. Bruns was taken in the Luken-Johnson ambulance to Floyd Valley hospital where he is listed in "satsfactory" condition. The sheriff reported he was not seriously injured.

Mrs. Bruns, the former Ankea Carrie Dirks, was born July 30, 1896, in Plymouth county. She was a lifelong resident, except for a few years spent as a child in Oklahoma.

Her marriage to Mr. Bruns took place Nov. 25, 1915, on a farm near Le Mars. The couple had been residing at the Erdtnann trailer court in Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eilert and Mary Frerichs Dirks, an infant brother and sister.

Survivors are her husband; a son, Elmer of Minneapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Knox of West Bend, Wis.; two brothers, John of Le Mars and Martin of Sioux City; three sisters, Mrs. John Hartman of Craig, Mrs. Clarence Collmann of Le Mars and Mrs. Joseph Hardacre of Le Mars; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
