William Muir. 209 2nd St. S. W, Le Mars, passed away suddenly Tuesday. August 4. 1959 while driving a pickup truck for the county where he was employed. Mr. Muir had been under doctors care in recent months but was seemingly on the road lo recovery. S. H. Luken. county coroner, said death was due lo a heart attack.

Mr. Muir was driving the county truck 3 miles cast of Akron on highway 3. When he did not appear on schedule to meet a coworker, Wm. Gronemeyer, an investigation was made, about 5 p. m. on Tuesday. The truck Mr. Muir was driving had veered off the highway back up on the shoulder and had come to rest in a ditch, with the ignition still on. He was pronounced dead when discovered. He bad been employed with the county for the past 10 years.

He was widely known in sports circles throughout the territory as a basketball referee and baseball umpire. He had played semi-pro baseball with teams at Akron, Remsen, Alton and Merrill as a young man and later had coached basketball for three years at Union Consolidated high school. Mr. Muir was a member of the Tri-State Referees and Umpires association.

Mr. Muir was born July 16, 1911, in Plymouth county near Akron. He was united in manage with Marvel Buhman. August 15, 1933. The couple lived in Union township for a number of years where Mr. Muir was custodian at Union School. They have resided in Le Mars the past ten years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 7 at 9 a. m. at St. James Catholic church, Le Mars with burial in the Calvary Cemetery under direction of the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home. Rev. L. J. LaVelle will officiate at last rites. Friends may call at the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home after 7 p. m. Wednesday until service time.

Survivors include his wife. Marvel; a daughter. Mrs. Alfred Janssen a granddaughter and a grandson; a brother, Vincent of Remsen and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Matilda) Braun of Le Mars.

Deceased was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ben.
