Ihnke Harms Gained Competence and Success Through Honest Effort Built Up Fine Home

Funeral Services Will Be Held Friday Afternoon

Ihnke Harms, 82, well known and prominent farmer and stock man of Plymouth county, a resident since 1881, died at his home in Brunsville Tuesday afternoon, March 2, after a lingering illness.

Ihnke Harms was born in Reepsholt, Ostfriesland, Germany, December 2, 1854, and came to Le Mars in 1881. He remained here several months and then went to Petersburg, Ill., where he lived with his brother, Heike Harms, for a year, returning to Plymouth County, where he lived the rest of his life with the exception of spending several winters in California.

He was united in marriage march 28, 1887 with Lena Siebels. For a number of years they lived on a farm in Grant twonship and later bought the farm west of Brunsville, still the family home. In 1917 they retired and lived for a
short time in Sioux City, later making their home in Brunsville.

Was Successful Farmer

As with many of the old settlers life was not always a path of roses, but in spite of hardships and reverses he maintained an optimistic disposition. He was very active during all his life. Weed patches were turned into gardens and flowers planted where thistles grew. Last fall it became apparent that age was taking its hold and during the winter he was confined to the house.

He leaves to mourn four sons, Henry J., Herman J. and Dick H. Harms of Brunsville; Charles S. Harms, of Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Anna Harms and Mrs. Katherine Dickman, of Brunsville, a large number of grandchildren and one great grandchild. His wife, Lena, a son, John, and a daughter, Mrs. Marie Johlfs, who died last June in Slayton, Minn., preceded him in death.

Funeral Friday Afternoon

The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in Christ church Grant township. Rev. A. Schempp, of Brunsville, officiating.
