Mrs. Charles (Leona) Russell, a longtime Le Mars and area resident, died Wednesday morning at Sioux City St. Joseph Mercy hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Dean Walker officiating. Burial was in Calvary cemetery under direction of Luedtke funeral home. Parish rosary was said at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Mrs. Russell, the former Leona Braun, was born March 21, 1900, in Plymouth County. On February 10,1920 she married Charles Russell at Allendale, The Russells farmed in Johnson Township until their retirement to Le Mars in 1958. Mrs. Russell had been a 100-day patient at St. Joseph hospital and last week, after the couple had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Mrs. Russell was transferred to Sunrise Manor, Sioux City, to live She was later transferred back to the hospital.
Survivors: Widower; sons, Eugene J. of Sioux City, Robert C. of Le Mars; 12 grandchildren; brother, Frank of Merrill; sister, Mrs. Otto Osterbuhr of Akron.
