Helen Kelley of Le Mars dead at 69 after illness
Helen R. Kelley, 69. of Le Mars, died Sunday (Oct. 9. 1983) at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars after an extended illness.
Mrs. Kelley, the former Helen Margaret Reidy was born to Dr. Mathew J. Reidy and Anna Gillespie Reidy at Graettinger, Iowa, on Feb. 15, 1914. She was educated in the public schools in Graettinger and attended the University of Iowa where she was graduated in 1936.
She taught in high schools in Gilbert and Manilla in Iowa before her marriage to James P. Kelley of Le Mars on June 12, 1940, at Akron.
Mrs. Kelley was a former member of the Linger Longer Club and the A.A.U.W. in Le Mars and years ago assisted in the girl scout program in Le Mars for several years, until failing health forced her retirement. She was employed in the Westmar College Library.
Mrs. Kelley is survived by her husband, who is chief judge of this judicial district; four sons, James M. of Lincoln, Neb., John C. of Baltimore, Md., Michael F. of Miami. Fla. and Patrick J. of Oakland, Calif. and three daughters, Nora K. Kelley and Mary C. Kelley, both of Pierre S.D. and Ann C. Kelley of Iowa City. She is also survived by two grandsons Christopher H. Kelley of Baltimore and James S. Brown of Pierre.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Rose, in infancy; her brother, John Reidy of Chicago; and her sister, Mary Metz of Salem, Ore.
Mrs. Kelley was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars where the funeral mass will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Internment will be in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Feuerstein-Luetke Funeral Home
A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 8 p.m.
