Marlin “Smokey” Hutton, 71, of Windsor, Colorado, formerly of Craig, Iowa passed away suddenly Saturday, June 4, 2011 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado.
A Memorial Service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa with Reverend Sarah Nye officiating. Inurnment will be at St. John Evangelical Cemetery. Visitations with the family present will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time Monday afternoon at the church in Craig. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.
Honorary casket bearers will be his 7 grandchildren: Andrew Brethauer, Mitchell Rhine, Zane Rhine, Hunter Shultz, Avery Shultz, Cameron Brethauer, and Connor Brethauer.
Milton G. Hutton was born February 5, 1940 to Nelson and Clara (Eggelbrecht) Hutton. “Smokey” as he became known to his family and friends was united in marriage to Joyce Hamilton on September 18, 1964 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill, Iowa. They lived in Craig, Iowa until 1984 when they moved to Windsor, Colorado. Smokey enjoyed camping, fishing, visiting with friends and neighbors; and of course the beautiful Colorado Rockies. His greatest joys in life was his family; especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Joyce Hutton of Windsor, CO; 3 daughters, Julie Rhine and her husband John of Sterling, CO, Janelle Brethauer and her husband Darrell of Windsor, CO, and Janet Shultz and her husband Michael of Windsor, Colorado; 7 grandchildren, Andrew Brethauer, Mitchell Rhine, Zane Rhine, Hunter Shultz, Avery Shultz, Cameron Brethauer, and Connor Brethauer; 4 siblings, Eugene Hutton and his wife Cecilia of Sioux City, IA, Arlene Schultz of Le Mars, Coralie Vande Mheen of South Sioux City, NE, and Roberta Williams and her husband Chuck of O’Neil, NE; 2 sisters-in-law, Carol Hutton of Craig, IA and Fern Heck of Merrill, IA; a brother-in-law, Bill Hamilton and his wife Mary of Merrill, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Smokey was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Clara (Eggelbrecht) Hutton; 2 brothers, Myron “Red” Hutton and Nelson “Swabby” Hutton; a sister, Barbara Eye; 3 brothers-in-law, Gilbert “Van” Vande Mheen, Dale Schultz, and Gene Heck; a nephew, Doug Hutton; and a niece, Donna Engel.
