The former Shirley Frances Dominick was born June 16, 1929 in Le Mars, IA, the daughter of Leo and Irene Warren Dominick. She grew up in Le Mars and attended Le Mars Public Schools. Shirley married Harold J. Sitzmann on December 28, 1949 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for many years west of Le Mars until their retirement in 1988. Harold and Shirley spent over 30 years of summer fun at Lake Shetek in Minnesota and when they were in their early 50’s they began traveling to Pharr, TX to escape Iowa winters. While they wintered in Texas much of their time and talent was spent reconstructing an orphanage operated by an order of nuns in Reynosa, Mexico. They moved into Le Mars 10 years ago.
Shirley was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She cherished time spent with her family and friends and enjoyed making candy and winning at the slot machines.
