Kevin “Cubby” Rolfes, 48, of Le Mars passed away Monday, February 21, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Le Mars Bible Church (1550 7th Ave. SE) with Reverend Fred Gums officiating. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 5:00 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitations will continue Friday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. E

Pallbearers will be Jim Denekas, Pete Hildreth, Dean Snyder, Patrick Hall, Russ Stusse, and Ron Oothoudt. Honorary casket bearers will be his co-workers at Jim’s Feed and Lance Kramer.

Kevin Paul Rolfes was born May 18, 1962 in Le Mars, Iowa to Andrew and Betty (Schroeder) Rolfes. In 1975, Kevin was diagnosed with cancer. He courageously faced this with determination. Through surgery and treatments, Kevin moved on to enjoy life. In high school, he volunteered with the football team and graduated from Le Mars Community High School with the Class of 1981. While in school, he worked for the Parks Department mowing grass. Following high school, he worked at the locker plants in Merrill and Brunsville and later for Mr. Muffler where he received the nickname of “Cubby”. He also had worked as a farm hand and at the Boat Farm. For the last several years, Cubby worked as a truck driver for Jim’s Feed in Le Mars. He loved his job. He worked for Jim’s until stroke slowed him down in 2009.

Kevin always maintained his positive outlook on life. Cubby enjoyed fishing and especially fishing on the Missouri river near Pickstown, South Dakota. He had fished in tournaments Iowa, South Dakota, Canada, Oklahoma, and Minnesota. He was also a very accomplished bowler and enjoyed golfing with friends.

Kevin was a member of the Le Mars Bible Church. He will be missed dearly by family and friends. Cubby always had the ability to think positively and to put a smile on your face.

Survivors include his mother, Betty of Le Mars; his siblings: Rick and Janice Rolfes of Merrill, Jeanette and Dan Dembinski of Le Mars, Tom Rolfes and Julie Power of Osage, Iowa, Cindy VanDerWeide of Le Mars, Bill Rolfes of Le Mars and Carol Woods; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and very special friends, Dean and Jody Snyder of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew in 1995; paternal grandparents, Ben and Caroline Rolfes; and maternal grandparents, Frank and Anna Schroeder.
