Matt Schumacher, 44, of Le Mars passed away suddenly Monday, February 21, 2011 at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Reverend Jason Larson of the Le Mars United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will be on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Holy Cross Cemetery, Lead, South Dakota. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Matthew Martin Schumacher was born December 30, 1966 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Albert Schumacher and Ellen Dianne Martin. As a child and as a young man he was creative, compassionate, adventurous, and fiercely independent. Matt attended Brandon Valley High School, Brandon, SD and later studied and received his GED through the Turnabout program in Sioux Falls. He continued his education at Lake Area Vo-Tech in Watertown, South Dakota. He went to work for Sam’s Club in Sioux Falls and in 1996 transferred to the Sam’s Club in Sioux City, Iowa and relocated to Le Mars. For the past few years, Matt was employed with Well’s Dairy in Le Mars.

Matt was united in marriage to Paula Van Emmerick in 1989. They were the proud parents of a son, Jeremiah.

Matt was open minded and accepting of others and was rewarded with many friendships throughout his life. He was a natural mechanic who could quickly assess a machine and its problems; which made him an asset wherever he worked. Matt enjoyed photography, target shooting, and cars. As a car enthusiast, enjoyed building and racing his cars.
Survivors include his son, Jeremiah; his parents, Dianne Martin and Albert Schumacher, Sr.; a brother, Albert Schumacher, Jr; a step sister, Amber Packard; and many friends who will miss his friendship.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
