HATTIE E. SCHALK

HINTON, Iowa—Hattie E. Schalk, 90, of Hinton died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 1990, in Countryside Retirement Home in Sioux City after a short illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Hinton United Methodist church with the Rev. Shirley Textor of Merrill United Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today with the family present from 7-9 p.m. in Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mrs. Schalk, the former Hattie E. Woolworth, was born May 25, 1899, at James. She received her elementary education in a rural school near James. She attended National Business Training School in Sioux City and was a lifelong Sioux City area resident. She married John F. Schalk Sept. 27, 1938, in Sioux City. She was a comptometer operator and bookkeeper for Becker Roofing Co. for five years, Sioux City Milk Producers Association for seven years, Armour & Co. and Williams & Co., retiring in 1952.

Mrs. Schalk was a member of Hinton United Methodist church and Senior Citizens Group at Hinton. She was auditor for the Eagles Lodge for 21 years.

Survivors include her husband, John, of Sioux City; nieces and nephews, Jean Huggenberger and James Young, both of Hinton; Lois Smith of Palo Alto, Calif., Ina Mae Butler of Bakersfield, Calif., and Alvin Woolworth of Los Altos, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
