Died at his home, one and a half miles south of Akron, on Wednesday, October 17, 1900, Preston Tucker, at the age of fifty-two years, of tuberculosis and inflamatory rhumatism..The deceased was born in Butler county, Ohio, in 1848, where he passed his boyhood. He enlisted in the union army from Oxford, Ohio, in 1864, and participated in that great struggle for human liberty until the close of the war. Eighteen years ago, in 1882, he came to Akron with his family and homesteaded the place where he passed his last days. Mr. Tucker's health had been poorly for some time, and for over a year past had been an invalid and an intense sufferer from the complications mentioned. He was a most exemplary man in every walk of life and his chief happiness on earth was his home and family circle. Beloved and esteemed by all who knew him, their deepest sympathy goes out to the wife [Sarah Ann Strong] and children in their sorrow.
Mr. Tucker was a charter member of James Biddlecome post, G. A. R., of Akron, and only recently his pension was increased by a grateful government to $12 per month.
The funeral was held at the family residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock Rev. L. A. McCaffree conducting the service. A considerable number of neighbors and friends attended. Interment was made in the Akron cemetery.
Among the floral offerings was a beautiful wreath from the G. A. R and W. R.C.
