Mrs. Sarah A. LyonsMrs. Sarah A. Lyons passed away Sunday afternoon, January 10, 1943, at the Akron. Hospital, where she had been a patient the past few weeks, after
having suffered a fractured hip in a fall in her home at Richland, S. D. Recovery from the injury was problematical from the first, due to her advanced age, 82 years, 4 months and 5 days.Sarah Ann Strong was born, in New Castle, Indiana, September 5, 1860, where she spent .most of her childhood. She was married to Preston Tucker in Mason City, Iowa, in 1877. A few years later they settled at Akron (then Portlandville), Iowa, homesteading three and one-half miles south of here on the farm now known as the Albert Grant place. Mr. Tucker died on October 17, 1900. To this union seven children were born — Loren W. Tucker, of Wisconsin Dells,Wis.; John W.Tucker, of Sioux City, Iowa; Emory L. Tucker, of Portage, Wis.; Mrs. Estella McCorkell, of Akron, and Mrs. Lizzie Lyons, of Sioux City, Iowa. Two children preceded her in death, Esther Leone Lias, on May 25, 1912, and Ben H. Tucker, on January 7, 1919.
She was married to A. D. Lyons, of Akron in March, 1902. After living at Kilbourn, Wis., for about ten years, they located at Richland, S. D., where Mr. Lyons died in March, 1936. Mrs. Lyons, is also survived by three stepchildren Gilbert L. Lyons, of Sioux City; Mrs,,Blanch Erickson, of Richland S.D. and Mrs. Ruth McCorkell, of Westfield, Iowa.
Surviving also are twenty-eight grandchildren and sixty-three great - grandchildren, as well as by two sisters,'Mrs; Libby Van Dusen, who lives
In California, and Mrs. Eva Bennett of Richland, S.D..Mrs. Lyons was ever a kind and devoted wife and mother, and an excellent
neighbor. The many friends she had gained during long years of residence in this vicinity offer sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
Funeral services were held in the Akron. Methodist church Tuesday afternoon
at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. A. Howe. Hymns were sung by Mrs. Hugh Chamberlain and Mrs. Glenn H. Wood, with accompaniment by Mrs. W. J. Brunner. Interment
