P. 4Elliott McCorkell, a resident of Akron and vicinity for many years, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 3, 1940, after an extended illness, having been practically an invalid for the past six or eight years, Elliott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McCorkell, was born in Jones county, Iowa, [September 1857] and moved with his parents to Dallas county, Iowa, later coming to Plymouth county, Iowa, and living on a farm in Portland township, northeast of Akron. He retired from farming and moved to Akron twenty years ago. Mr. McCorkell was a man of sterling character, industrious habits, and well respected in the community.
Surviving him are two brothers and two sisters, J. L. McCorkell, of Akron; Miss Elizabeth McCorkell, of Akron; Mrs. W. W. [Louisa Lutie] Hyink, of LeMars, and Walter McCorkell, of Eureka, Calif. His parents and a brother, Howard, preceded him in
death.Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the family home, conducted by Rev. N. V. Sack, pastor of the Evangelical church at Sleepy Eye, Minn., and a nephew of the deceased. Interment was in Riverside Ccmetery, Akron.
Relatives from out of town in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. W.
w. Hyink, of LeMars; Don Hyink, of Rush River, Minn.;Mrs. Kenneth Sol, of Hull Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie McCorkell, of Stevens, S.D.
