Robert W. Ellis, 86, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mayflower Congregational Church, with the Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Visitation with the family present will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Mr. Ellis was born in Sioux City on Jan. 30, 1921, to Dr. Percy and Mrs. Marguerite Ellis of Merrill, Iowa. He graduated from Merrill High School in 1938. After serving for more than three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he returned to Sioux City. He was employed in real estate and retail sales until his retirement in 1989.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Landmark Lodge for more than 50 years. He was a charter member of the Co-Operative Club (now Sertoma), serving as a local president and later as an international director of that organization.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Carlton Ellis; a son and his wife, Dr. Mark and Pamela Ellis of Lexington, Ohio; a daughter, Marcia Ellis Miller and her husband, Darrell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren, Dana Ellis Cummings of Eldora, Iowa, Miles Ellis of Brooklyn, N.Y., Erin Miller Burton of Des Moines and Lauren Miller McMullen of Minneapolis.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Siouxland or to the memorial fund of the Mayflower Congregational Church.
Note: His ashes are buried at HILLSIDE Cemetery at Merrill, Iowa.
