Shirley Marienau, 50, of Merrill, died Saturday (April 28, 1984) at Marian Health Center, Sioux City following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church at Merrill. Rev. Harold Norhiem officiated. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at Merrill under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson funeral home.

The former Shirley Smith was born on Dec. 23, 1933, in rural Remsen to Robert and Anna Redenius Smith. She married Edward Marienau on Oct. 24, 1953, at Merrill. She was a Plymouth County resident most of her life. She was a waitress in Merrill.

Survivors are her husband; one son, Brandon of Merrill; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Kristi) Fischer of Hinton and Mrs. Greg (Susan) Miller of Merrill; three brothers, Harvey Smith of Woodstock, Minn., Gilbert of Piper stone, Minn., and David of Spencer, la.; four sisters, Mrs. Earl (Georgia) Sorgdrager of Merrill, Mrs. Norbert (Ann) Peschon of Woodstock, Minn., Mrs. Armand (Virginia) Brown of Akron, and Mrs. Don (Jackie) Reamer of Las Vegas, Nev.; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and a sister.
