Richard "Rich" Martin, 36, of Le Mars, died suddenly Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, from injuries sustained in a truck accident.
Richard "Rich" Patrick Martin was born Dec. 16, 1973, to Daniel and Lynda (Stinton) Martin in Sioux Falls, S.D. Rich was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rich had attended school in Le Mars and Sioux City.
He worked for various construction companies in the area and for the last several years worked for Walker Excavating in Le Mars.
Rich's passion in life was his music. At a very young age, his gift for music was readily visible. As a toddler he was showing his rhythm playing the "pots and pans." He taught himself to play drums, piano, and the guitar.
Through the years, Rich had preformed with several bands in the area; mostly playing drums. He loved the life of music.
Along with his music, Rich enjoyed photography, art, and fishing.
Rich was adventurous; often leaving on a "road trip" with the clothes on his back, a full pack of cigarettes and the music in his heart. He loved to meet people and share stories.
His greatest joy in life are his daughters, Taylor and Jaidyn. He treasured the time with his girls.
Survivors include his daughters, Taylor Clarey of Le Mars and Jaidyn Martin of Sioux City; his mother, Lynda Martin of Sioux City; his grandmothers, Betty Stinton of Le Mars and Florence Parrish of Longview, Wash.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lyle Stinton and an uncle, Dick Stinton.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, at the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars with the Reverend Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. officiating. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends after 5 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 11 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be James Lariviere, Chad Stinton, David Stinton, Brian "Styles" Schulz, Dustin DeBoer, and Travis Fulton.
