ELMER ANSTINE DIED WEDNESDAY
Was Elgin Assessor For Half Century

Elmer Anstine, pioneer resident of Seney community and for more than a half century assessor in Elgin township, died Wednesday, July 10, in Sacred Heart Hospital where he had been a patient for about two weeks.

Elmer Anstine was born August 19, a861, in Freeport, Illinois, and came to this country with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Anstine, who were early settlers in Seney vicinity. He was married to Margaret Guy, who died 41 years ago. Mr. Anstine lived on the home farm near Seney until his last illness. A son died eight or ten years ago. Mr. Anstine was a fine penman and his assessor reports were a model of neatness and accuracy.

He is survived by one brother, George W. Anstine, who lives in the state of Washington, and is expected here for the funeral. He is also survived by the following nieces and nephews: Clara L. Bamberger and Stanley H. Bamburger of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Mabel Hughes of Omaha. The latter kept house for Mr. Anstine for several years before her marriage to Ralph Hughes.

Funeral services will be held at the Seney church at 1:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. W.J. Witter, the Seney Methodist church pastor, officiating, and burial will be in the Seney cemetery.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral of Elmer Anstine at the Seney M.E. church Saturday afternoon were: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hughes and daughter of Denver, Colorado; Geo. Anstine of Washington; Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Hughes and Mrs. Clara Bamberger, all of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
