Ronald Ernest Burke, 77, of Westfield died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, In Iowa City, Iowa, following a brief illness.
Services were held Aug. 13 at Westfield Congregational Church, Westfield with Rev. Justin May officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Akron. John Lease, soloist, sang "How Great Thou Art" "On Eagles Wings," and "Amazing Grace." Congregational singing included "The Lord's Prayer," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Rock of Ages." Pianist was Mrs. John Lease.
Pallbearers were Darcy Fletcher, Dr. Barry Knapp, Justin Burke, Aaron Burke, David Adklns. Tommy Adkins, Walt Hummel, and Bill Hummel.
Honorary pallbearers were Cliff Faust, Don Parnell, Harold Lawrence and Corey Vande Zandschulp.
Mr. Burke was born on Aug. 13, 1919, in Akron, the son of Frank E. and Mae (Chambers) Burke. He graduated from Akron High School in 1937 and attended Springfield Teacher's School for three years. He married Martha McDougall oh Sept. 16, 1940, in Dakota City. He was employed as. an assistant mail carrier in Akron and worked with his dad in the 1940's. He worked at the Westfield service station for five years. He also was employed with Boeing Aircraft in Seattle for 11 years and was Westfield City Clerk for 16 years.
Survivors, include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Patricia Ann and Donald Parnell of Liberal, Kansas; a son and his wife, Michael Ronald and Debra J. Burke of Waterloo, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; a sister and her husband, Anita Ann and Ken MacDicken of Snohomish, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Duane Burke; and two sisters. Irene Burke and Izetta Holm.
