Myrna Odessa (Richey) Brodie, 93. of Akron, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at the Akron Care Center.

Services were held Saturday, Aug. 16 at Feuerstein Funeral Home, Le Mars with Dr. David Fray officiating. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. The grandchildren were, pallbearers.

She was born Nov. 19, 1903, at what is now 401 Central Ave., S.W., Le Mars, the home of her parents Dr. Milton W. Richey and the former Odessa May Harris Richey.

She attended Le Mars Public Schools, the music conservatory at Momingside College, the University of Nebraska and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston/Mass., majoring in piano. She taught piano in Le Mars and at times played in movie theater's in Le Mars for, silent movies. She married Robert B. Brodie July 22, 1925, in Sioux City. He and his brothers operated Brodie's Meat Market in Le Mars until 1936, at which time they moved to a farm southeast of Akron. They returned to Le Mars in 1969, living at 1233 Third Ave.. S.W., Mr. Brodie died Feb. 1, 1975.

Her hobby was piecing quilts by hand, and she leaves quilts for all her immediate family. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church Mars. At her request her. funeral was held at the Feuerstein Funeral Home, the home of her birth, which her father had constructed before the turn of the century (ca. 1897).

She moved to Sioux City on Sept. 25, 1989; residing in an independent living apartment at the Sunrise Retirement Community. Failing health forced her to move to the Akron Care Center, Akron, on June 1, 1994.

She Is survived by her son and his wife, Malcom and Beverly Brodie of rural Akron; and six grandchildren, Kathlyn Saienga of Akron, Karen Andrew of Washington, Iowa, and Kim Brodie of Salem, Mass., Roberta Barry of Hawthorne Woods, Ill. and Brian Brodie and Craig Brodie, both of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Alice Lang of Vermillion, S.D.; and five nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three half brothers, two half sisters, and a son, his wife and their Infant son, R. Bruce and Phyllis Brodie and Gregory.
