Lester "Kap" Kapfer

Lester "Kap" Kapfer, 79, of Akron, died Tuesday, June 30, 1992, at the Akron Care Center of a brief illness.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. The Rev. Allen Bidne officiated, Gary Tucker, soloist, sang "Hymn of Promise" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand", accompanied by Phyllis Frisk, organist. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of the Schroeder funeral home in Akron. Military graveside rites were conducted by Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Pallbearers were Lloyd Meyer, Gerald Dykstra, James Siebens, Buell Schager, Robert Voss and Art Voss.

Mr. Kapfer was born Dec. 23 1912, in Union County, South Dakota, rural Akron, to William and Elizabeth (Carson) Kapfer. He served in the U.S. army during. World War II in Africa and Sicily. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for a few years, and operated the power plant in Akron for many years. He also worked as a carpenter for the Farmers Cooperative in Akron. He retired in 1975. He moved to the Six-Plex in Akron in 1990, and to the Care Center in April of 1992. Mr. Kapfer enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include one sister, Clara Weidenfeller of Akron; one brother, Oscar Kapfer of Akron; and 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Elmer and Levi, and a sister, Minnie Cunningham.
