Meta K. "Matie" Ruble, 98, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Meta Katherine Kliehauer was born in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Feb. 26, 1912. She was one of 10 children born to Henry and Johanna (Dirks) Kliehauer. Matie was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, (Grant Township) rural Le Mars. She attended country school near her home.
On June 25, 1929 Matie and Robert Ruble were united in marriage at Christ Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Le Mars. Matie was a homemaker and she and Robert raised three children.
She was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed entertaining guests in her home. When she and Robert retired they spent summers at Lake Shetek in Minnesota.
Robert died Feb. 17, 1984. Matie remained in Le Mars and later moved to the Floyd Valley Apartments.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Matie enjoyed listening to music and watching Lawrence Welk.
She was currently residing at Plymouth Manor Care Center.
Matie is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Phyllis Schmidt of Le Mars, and Alvina Heyl and her husband Milton of Sheldon; a daughter-in-law, Eleanor Ruble of Cherokee,; grandchildren Rory (Marcia) Ruble of Holstein, Bruce (Connie) Ruble of Cherokee, Debbie (Jim) Agnitsch of Cherokee, Connie (Martin) Johnson of Omaha, Neb., Sheila Robinette of Le Mars, Marcia (John) Baker of Hornick, Madelyn (Mike) Hoven of Matlock, Jane (Rick) Kroon of Yankton, S.D., and Greg (LaRae) Heyl of Anamosa; 24 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; two brothers Otto (Jeanine) Kleihauer of Brunsville, and Albert (Mildred) Kliehauer of Cherokee; two sisters Emma Harms and Lillian Moller, both of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Harlan; a son-in-law Marlowe Schmidt; brothers, John Kliehauer and Henry (Jean) Kliehauer; sisters Anna (John) Plueger, Mary (Cletus) Wiebersch, Etta (Henry) Beitelspacher; and brothers-in-law Fred Harms and John Moller.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Greg Gabriel will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Friday), at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Saturday.
