Walter Henry Case, 83, of Le Mars, a former Sioux City resident, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Walter Henry Case was born July 31, 1926, in Kingsley, the son of U. Grant and Carlotta (Kisting) Case, and was raised in the Kingsley area. He attended school in Kingsley, and then received his bachelor of arts degree in education and history from Iowa State Teacher's College.

He served as a gunner's mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Aug. 22, 1948, he married Frances J. Cripps in Sioux City. After his marriage, the family lived in Cedar Rapids, Sioux City, Omaha, Neb., and Des Moines, before returning to Sioux City in 1972.

He and Frances moved to Le Mars in 1996. She died Sept. 19, 2003, in Le Mars.

Walter was a sales representative for General Foods and Maxwell House Coffee for a number of years. He then became a sales manager for the De De Beverage Co. from 1971 until his retirement in 19988.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Le Mars.

He was a member of the Morningside Masonic Lodge #615 in Sioux City, and a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 140 of Kingsley.

Walter was a big fan of the University of Nebraska football team. He played varsity football while in college. He enjoyed any football game, including going to high school games.

He was also an avid golfer, and enjoyed listening to music by the Glenn Miller Band.

He was a loving father, husband and grandfather.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dave and Oanh Case of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Jane Davis and her husband, Tye Meintsma of Sheldon, and Sue Case of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Nolan and Luke Case, Richard Mattison, Christopher and Alexander Davis; two great-grandchildren, Donovan and Calvin Mattison; and one sister, Alice Rasmussen of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, George Case and a sister, Blanche Turner.

Graveside services were at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, with the Rev. Jason Larson, pastor of United Methodist Church of Le Mars, officiating. Military honors were held at the cemetery.

Visitation was after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with the family present from 4-8 p.m. A Masonic service was held at 7 p.m.

The family requests memorials may be directed to the Shriner's Children Hospitals.
