A PIONEER
CALLED HOME
MRS. CATHERINE SITZMAN
DIED IN LINCOLN TWP.
An Old Resident of The County And
Highly Respected Died
Yesterday Morning

Mrs. Catherine Sitzman passed
away yesterday morning at the home
of her son, Joseph Sitzman, in Lincoln
township after a short illness of
two weeks duration. Death came at a
quarter past nine o'clock and removed
her soul from this earth to a greater awakening
in Heaven.

Mrs. Sitzman had reached the great
age of eighty-one years and one month
on the day of her death.

Since the death of her husband, Joseph
Sitzman, which occurred twenty-
seven years ago, Mrs. Sitzman has
made her home among her children.
She had spent the winter in Le Mars
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fidel
Heissel and went out to visit her
son in Lincoln township about three
weeks ago. She has been a sufferer
from asthma for some time and from
other complications due to old age
is attributed the cause of her death.

The Sitzmans are among the older
and most widely known families of
Plymouth county and her death has
caused sorrow.

She belonged to the sturdy class of
German people who came here when
western Iowa was little more than a
prairie wilderness, and whose labors
made it the richest agricultural section
of the country.

Catherine Sitzman was born at Berian,
Germany, May 27, 1829 where her
childhood days were spent. When a
young girl she came to America with
her parents who located near Madison,
Wis. At that place she was united in
marriage to Joseph Sitzman, who
many years since has passed away.
They came to Plymouth county over
thirty years ago with a family of
growing sons and daughters and engaged
in farming in Lincoln Township.

Mrs. Sitzman was the mother of
seven children most of whom reside in
this vicinity. They are Joseph and Valentine
Sitzman. of Lincoln Township;
Kate Wilkins wife of County Supervisor
Ed. Wilkins, of Kingsley; Mrs. Teresa
McCoy, of Dakota; Mrs. Mary Simeon,
of Sioux City; Mrs. Maggie
Giersregen ot Sioux City; and Mrs.
Barbara Heissel of Le Mars.

Nearly seventy-five grandchildren
and over forty great-grand children
survive.

Mrs. Sitzman was a woman whose
influence for good in the community
In which she has made her home will
be felt for many years after the seal of
death was placed on a most useful
and exemplary life. She was a thorough
Christian wife and mother in
every sense and all who came in contact
with her were greatly benefited
thereby. The funeral will be held in
the St. James church in Le Mars tomorrow
morning at 10 o'clock. The remains
will be laid to rest beside those
of her husband in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
