Mrs. Mattie Appley

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie
Appley, 72, who died Monday at
her. home at Akron following a
long illness, were at 2 p.m. Friday
at the Emmanuel Lutheran church,
Akron. Rev. David Roy officiated
and burial was in Riverside ceme-
tery at Akron.

Mrs. Appley was born June 25,
1891, at Vancouver, B. C , Canada,
and moved to Emmetsburg, Ia.,
when she was a young girl. After
graduation, she moved to Union
county, S. D., to teach in rural
schools.

She was married to Joseph Appley
on January 22, 1913, near
Akron. The couple farmed in Union
county until retiring and moving to
Akron in 1946.

Survivors include the widower;
three daughters, Mrs. Velma Herren
and Mrs. Martha Mae Anderson,
both of Akron, and Mrs. Venita
Utesch of Whitesboro, N. Y.; one
brother, Orville Telford of Ayrshire,
la., one sister, Mrs. Agnes Lippold
of Spencer, Ia.; 18 grandchildren,
and six great-grandchildren.
