Helen Susemihl, 85, of Le Mars went home to Jesus on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
The former Helen June Van Asma was born July 27, 1921, in Le Mars, the daughter of Louis and Martha (Smid) Van Asma. She grew up in Le Mars and graduated from St Joseph's Catholic High School. On Jan. 12, 1951, she married Marvin H. Susemihl in Sioux City. Following their marriage the couple lived their entire lives in Le Mars. Her husband died Aug. 8, 1990.
Helen enjoyed playing pinochle with her family and friends. She delighted in baking and always enjoyed sharing her treats with those closest to her. She adored her family and especially enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her three children: Karen and Max Payne of Yankton, S.D., Gary and Cindy Susemihl and Tom and Joan Susemihl, all of Le Mars. Grandchildren include Dan and David Payne, Brett and Deb, Joe and Amanda, Matt and Nicole Susemihl, Michelle and Dustin Kass, Molly Susemihl and Maggie Susemihl. Great-grandchildren include Mason and Gavin Kass and Jade and Dylan Susemihl.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; a brother and his wife, Lee and Rosalyn Van Asma; and two sisters and their husbands, Jen and Louis Hoffmann and Regina and Lawrence Roeser.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St James Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.
