Retired Akron farmer Edward Borchers dead

Edward B. Borchers, 69, Akron, lifelong Plymouth county resident and prominent farmer, died unexpectedly Monday (Aug. 11, 1980) at the Akron hospital. He had been ill only a short time and was a semi-retired farmer.

Mr. Borchers was born April 13, 1911, in Preston township to William B. and Margaret Johnson Borchers. He married Esther Schiefen Feb. 6, 1932, at St. John's Lutheran church, Preston township. He was a member of St. John's church.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church in Preston township. Rev. James Sandvik will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery at rural Akron under direction of the Mauer funeral home in Le Mars. A family prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Esther, route 3, Akron; two sons, Kenneth of Sedan,Kan., and Charles of Fort Dodge; five grandchildren, Steven of San Antonio, Tex.; Terry of Wichita, Kan.; Rickey of Tacoma, Wash., and Mitch and Jerry of Fort Dodge. There are three great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Eilts, Ireton, Mrs. Minnie Witt, Hawarden, and Mrs. Lyle (Marie) Stephens, rural Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Herman
