Philip Lubben of Le Mars, a former resident of this vicinity, died at his home in Le Mars Monday morning following a lingering illness caused by an internal malady. It was the second death in the family within a week, his son, John Lubben, having passed away Christmas Day. Mr. Lubben had been in failing health for some time and was in a hospital in Sioux City several weeks. He was brought to his home in Le Mars last Wednesday and passed away Monday morning.
Funeral services will be held at St. John's Lutheran church at 1 o'clock this afternoon with Rev; J. J. Vollmar, pastor of the Le Mars church, and Rev. F. Meske of Akron, in charge. Interment will be made in the Grant township cemetery in Plymouth, county.
Philip Lubben was born in Germany April 11, 1861, and so was past 73 years of age. When a youth be came to America and worked on a farm in Jones county, Iowa. He came to Le Mars with his brother, Albert Lubben, in the eighties and for seven years they engaged in farming in Plymouth county. When a young man he was married to Marie Hinrich. The family came to Sioux county in 1905, locating on a farm four miles south of Hawarden, in Logan township. About fifteen years ago he retired and moved to Le Mars and has made his home in that city ever since.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, two sons, Henry Lubben, who lives on the home farm, and George Lubben of Le Mars; four daughters, Mrs. John Rankin of Le Mars; Mrs. August Meske of Akron; Mrs. Will Barinsky of Colome, S. D., and Mrs. August Osterthun of Chatsworth. Mr. Lubben was well liked by all who knew him. He possessed a jovial and fun disposition. He was a devoted husband and father and as a neighbor was loyal and dependable. His many friends in this vicinity will learn with regret of his passing.
