RETIRED MERRILL FARMER WROTE ABOUT EARLY COUNTY LIFECharles C. Knapp, 81, LeMars, former longtime rural Merrill resident, died Friday (Aug. 10, 1984) at Plymouth Manor Care Center after a short illness. He had resided two years at the center.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Adaville United Methodist church, rural Merrill. Rev. Donald Bardole will officiate and burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars will be after 2 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m.
Charles Cyrus Knapp was born Feb. 8, 1903, at Westfield to Charles L. and Anna Kellogg Knapp. He married Vesta Younglove Nov. 26, 1927, at Sioux City. He had lived 19 years at Cushing and farmed near Merrill 30 years.
He was a member of Adaville United Methodist church and wrote articles about early Plymouth County farm life for the LeMars Daily Sentinel after his retirement.
Survivors are his wife, Vesta, LeMars; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Kay) Ballantyne, San Diego, and Mrs. Ray (Marilyn) Wycoff, Manchester, Iowa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. George (Gertha) Henry, Fullerton, Calif., and brother, Keith Knapp, Westfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and four brothers.
