LaVonne Mauer, 93, of Le Mars, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
LaVonne Mauer was born June 26, 1913, in Kingsley, the daughter of John and Elsie (Hearling) Lindsay. She attended school near her home, graduating form Union Township High School. LaVonne later attended Westmar College in Le Mars where she studied piano and music.
On March 25, 1935, LaVonne and Norman Mauer were united in marriage at Pender, Neb. They made their home in various locations during World War II while Norman served in the military. Following the war they moved to Le Mars where LaVonne worked as a homemaker.
LaVonne was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars and was active in Circle and had served as an Elder. She was one of the original members of Elderly Peer Counseling in the State of Iowa, serving for 20 years. LaVonne also sat on the Core Review Committee at the Abbey of Le Mars. She was an avid bridge player.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Bruce Mauer and his wife Judy of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Mary Robertson of Indian Lake, N.Y., and Anne Dull of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth, David, Jim, Peter and Sarah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norman in 1979; a brother, Jim Lindsay; a sister, Lucille Upright and her husband Charles; a grandson, Jeff Dull; and a son-in-law, D. James Dull.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars. The Rev. Drew Tomberlin will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the memorial service.
