PAYSON, Ariz. -- Irene Frances Lee died peacefully Friday, March 31, 2006, at the Hospice Care Clinic in Payson, Ariz., following an eight-month battle with cancer.

Irene was born Jan. 29, 1923, the daughter of Ulrich and Anna (Lubben) Kock on the family farm near Le Mars. In 1946 she married George Lee. They made their home in Le Mars where Irene was a homemaker.

She and George owned and operated the Dew Drop Inn bar in Le Mars for many years. After retiring, they bought a small resort on Long Lake near Park Rapids, Minn., and operated that for 25 years. George died in 1964 and Irene continued to run the resort until she retired and moved back to Le Mars. In 1996, she moved to Mesa, Ariz., where she worked for Wal-Mart for six years. In January 2006 she moved to Payson, Ariz.

Irene is survived by two brothers, John Nagel and his wife, Ilse of Huntsville, Ala., and Clarence Kock and his wife, Gladys of Le Mars, two sisters, Marie Janssen of Willmar, Minn., and Margaret Pecks of Le Mars; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gerhard Kock and Harm Kock; three nieces, Betty Fisher, Rosemary Johnson and Barbara Powell; two brothers-in-law, William Janssen and Bernard Pecks; and two sisters-in-law Kathrine Kock and Nora Kock.

A gravesite memorial service will be held at a later date.
