Noel Morton, 61, of Le Mars, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Noel Garth Morton was born Oct. 21, 1945, in Sioux City, the son of Garth and Viola (Ringler) Morton. Noel was born visually impaired. He spent most of his life in Sioux City, and attended the New Hope Center in eastern Iowa, a facility for the visually impaired.

Noel was united in marriage to Dixie Kulvik on May 9, 1970, in Sioux City. They spent 20 years in Minnesota, and while in Thief River Falls, he attended college for electronics, woodworking and computers. They moved to Le Mars in 2000. They have been residents at the Abbey in Le Mars.

Noel's passion in life was music. In his earlier years, music helped him focus on his job. When he was four years old, he started producing music, first on a harmonica, then on a piano and later on an organ. He had two keyboards that he played in his room at The Abbey. He also enjoyed playing at Brentwood Good Samaritan Village and Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Noel also enjoyed collecting radios and televisions and fixing and repairing them. He liked being outdoors and on the family farm. He was always giving to others and very sympathetic to his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of more than 36 years, Dixie of Le Mars; four brothers: Michael and Helga Morton of Aurora, Colo., Jon and Charlotte Morton of Mapleton, Conrad and Linda Morton of Inverness, Fla., and Jeffrey and Olga Morton of St. James, Minn.; seven sisters: Linda Conrad of Sidney, Mont., Margo McGuire and her companion, Jake of Sioux City, Judy Curiel and her husband William of Winton, Calif., Bonita Zajecka and her husband Paul of Sioux City, Terri Williams of Sioux City, Diane Benson and her husband Dr. Dave of Dallas Center, and Vickie Hancock and her husband Jeff of New Prague, Minn.; and several in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy, Susan Morton.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Thursday) with the family present after 5 p.m., and a prayer service at 6 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.
