LE MARS, Iowa -- Maxyne Tolsma, 94, of Le Mars died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at the Abbey of Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars with the Rev. Dean Goebel officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. today at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to services.

Maxyne Elizabeth DuVall was born on Aug. 13, 1910, in Adams County, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Maxwell and Besse Mae (Herring) DuVall. She was raised and educated in Corning, Iowa.

On June 7, 1930, Maxyne and Edgar Tolsma were united in marriage in Le Mars. The couple made their home in Le Mars where they started and raised their family.

Maxyne was a member of Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars for 74 years. She served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, group leader, cradle roll officer and elder, and was an active member of the hospitality committee for many years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jeanette Haven and her husband, Claude, of Tuolumne, Calif.; a son, Jake Tolsma and his wife, Jacqueline, of Santa Ana, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Katherine, Tracy Lee, Russell, Dan Anthony, John Douglas, John Eugene, Mary Beth, Steven and Ryan; 11 great-grandchildren, Elisha, Israel, Esther, Joshua, Mike, Danielle, Alicia, Douglas, Jessica, Danica and Steven Riley; two nieces, Mary Ellen Habben and Elizabeth Mogler and their children; and close friends, Marvel Hartle and Jane Truesdell, both of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar in 1978; a son, Maj. John Douglas in 1968; a daughter, SueZanne in 2001; two sisters, Helen and Freyda; and three brothers, Bud, Robert and Roland.
