MERRILL, Iowa -- Norma J. Tapper, 76, of Merrill died Thursday, May 13, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Merrill, with the Rev. Claus Raab officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Norma was born July 28, 1927, in Lansing, Mich., to Lee and Gladys (Stustman) Thomas. She lived in Sioux City for 12 years and had lived in Merrill for 47 years. She ran the family business, Top's Cafe.

She married Elmer Tapper on May 17, 1945, in Sioux City. Elmer died Feb. 26, 1991, in Merrill.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Tapper and his wife, Michele, of Merrill; three daughters, Pamela Tapper-Luckel and her husband, Mike, of Le Mars, Iowa, Patti Koopmans and her husband, Arven, of Ireton, Iowa, and Cindy Sudbeck and her husband, Tim, of Kingsley, Iowa; and grandchildren, Tiffany Luckel, Peter, Nicole, Danielle, Tyler, Michael and Todd Sudbeck and his wife, Emily, Dusty, Lindsey, Ali and Austin Koopmans and his fiancee, Brenda Engels, and Kelsey, Lee and Luke Tapper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Virginia Thomas.
