LaVonne M. Kruger, 78, of Le Mars died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars following a lengthy battle with cancer.

LaVonne M. Kruger was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Sutherland, the daughter of Richard and Lucile (DeNoyer) Beckman. She was raised in the Sutherland area and graduated from a country high school near her home.

On Oct. 24, 1944, LaVonne and Kenneth Kruger were united in marriage at Primghar. The couple made their home in Cherokee and Plymouth Counties where they owned and operated K&K Trucking for more than 30 years.

Along with raising her children, LaVonne also worked at Gambles, Hart's Produce, and Aalfs Manufacturing. She was employed with BT Trucking in Le Mars for the past 10 years until her health declined.

She moved to Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars Feb. 2, 2004. LaVonne liked to play bingo and take trips to "the boat" in Sioux City.

Survivors are her son Kenneth Jr., and his wife, Carmen of Colton, Calif.; her daughter, Terry Rohlfsen and her husband, David of Le Mars; four grandchildren, Elena and Renee of California, Shelly Van Grouw and her fiance~ Kyle Ruden of Le Mars and Stacy Polk of Tennessee; 11 great-grandchildren, Nicole and Brittani Van Grouw, Amanda and Lakin Schoenherr, Savahna and Jazmine Polk, along with five others in California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth on April 19, 1992; a son, Richard on July 11, 1994; and a half-sister, Shamonne "Peggy" Baker.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Thursday and will continue until service time.
