Gertrude Meyer, 87, of Le Mars, died Saturday, Sept, 9, 2006, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Gertrude Doris Meyer was born March 17, 1919, in Le Mars, the daughter of Leslie Perry and Lydia Marie (Baker) Mann. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She attended Le Mars Central High School, graduating in 1936. Following her education Gertrude worked at the Le Mars Savings Bank.

On July 14, 1937 Gertrude and Bert Meyer were united in marriage in Walthill, Neb. They made their home in Le Mars. In 1943 they moved to Denver, Colo., where Gert worked for an oil drilling company. They returned to Le Mars in 1945.

In 1953 the family relocated to Belle Fourche, S.D., and later, Hulett, Wyo., and Wall, S.D. Gert was the manager of the rockshop at Wall Drug for eight years. The couple retired in 1975 to Wickenburg, Ariz. Bert died May 5, 1979, and Gert returned to her hometown of Le Mars.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, was an avid baseball fan, liked to sew, kept a large flower garden, and collected rocks.

Gert will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Leslie Oliver of Golden, Colo.; her son, Barry and his wife Teresa of Black Hawk, S.D.; grandchildren Marian Exum, Lyda Oliver, Kevin Meyer and his wife Ericka, and Catherine Meyer; great-grandchildren Stephanie, Jacob, Jeremy and Kyle, and great-great grandchildren River, Christopher, and Avriela.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bert; and a brother, Irving Claude Mann.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Greg Gabriel will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
