Lloyd A. Weidauer, 89, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Lloyd was born on the Weidauer farm in Washington Township, Plymouth County, on March 9, 1915, the son of Reinhart and Esther (Kehrberg) Weidauer. He attended grade school at Dalton (West Le Mars) and graduated from Le Mars High School.

Lloyd married Dorothy Rees on Aug. 24, 1938. After their marriage, the couple farmed for several years before retiring to Le Mars in 1976.

Lloyd played the clarinet in the Le Mars Municipal Band in the 1930s and 1940s, performing at fairs, parades and other important local events. In 1933, he attended the World's Fair in Chicago.

Lloyd was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Le Mars. Over the years, Lloyd participated in many community service activities, including the Plymouth County 4-H and Plymouth County Fair. He was a charter officer for the Plymouth County Pork Producers, an inspector for the Soil Conservation Service, a performance inspector for the ASC office, Floyd Valley Watershed Association, an officer in Farm Bureau, a director with Farm Service and director for Plymouth Co. Coop Oil.

Lloyd's wife, Dorothy, died April 20, 1994. Shortly after her death, Lloyd became active in Hospice. In 1997 he received recognition at the state meeting for his Hospice volunteer work, the top "Honored Volunteer" award for Hospice of Siouxland.

Survivors include his son, Tim Weidauer and his wife, Carol, of Le Mars, and one daughter, Becky Wiersma of Le Mars; four grandchildren, Jeffrey J. Weidauer and his wife, Treasa, Gregory L. Weidauer and his wife, Elizabeth, Nicole A. Spencer and her husband, Matthew, and Jacquelyn D. Wiersma; and six great-grandchildren, Samantha Jo, David T. and Thomas R. Weidauer, Colin P. and Sara M. Weidauer and Jacob A. Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; and an infant son, Philip.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today (Thursday), with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
